This work is edition 1/5.

Anna Kasko’s ongoing series The Found Slides layers multiple slide film transparencies on lightboxes to create something entirely new. The found images that make up this series document a family from the 1950s to the 1980s as they engage in traditional leisure pursuits. Much like other works within the series, Stanley Park Cruise touches on both the everyday and ideal, featuring two well-dressed family members at a park gathering. By layering images on small lightboxes, Kasko intentionally obscures the familiar. The viewer must lean in and actively read the photographs simultaneously to make sense of the original scenes, while also analyzing the new composition that emerges from their pairing. Kasko asks the viewer to question the relationships between the subjects of the images as well as the tenuous connection between photography and the truth.

Kasko holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver. Her work has been exhibited locally at venues including Franc Gallery, Pendulum Gallery, and in her personally owned gallery, 560 Gallery (all in Vancouver), amongst others. Her work has been published in magazines including GEIST, SAD MAG and The New Quarterly. Works from The Found Slides series were included in Capture’s 2022 Featured Exhibition, Family Album. Her work is held in private collections within Canada and internationally.
