PROVENANCE
Gallery Moos, Toronto

This mixed media on paper belongs to a period of Etrog’s work that was dedicated to steel constructions. The drawing captures, in two dimensional form, the flatness and simplicity that characterizes Etrog’s sculptural works from the 1980s. Etrog elaborates, “Over the years, my work has fluctuated in part deliberately and in part by chance, from flat wall pieces to free-standing three dimensional works. In 1980, I began a series of drawings and collages using the initials ‘L.A.’ for an exhibition in Los Angeles to celebrate the city’s 200th anniversary. From this series, a new simplification occurred in my sculpture titled The Steel Constructions. This was the first time that my work had been fabricated from steel sheets. They were flat on the wall, cool and calculated. The hinge connected the flat surfaces with its tubular swelling, creating a dialogue between mechanical and organic."

Please note: this work is matted but unframed.
