This is a prepratory oil sketch for the HBC calendar painting by J.S. Hallam, titled "Distributor at Fort Norman, 1942," sold by Heffel in December 2025. HBC was very involved in the calendar painting creation process. HBC would commission an artist, provide the subject of the piece as well as reference material, and would review and approve a sketch of the painting, such as this one, before the artist submitted their final work.

The auction preview will be held at Heffel Toronto May 27 - 28 by appointment only.

The Buyer’s Premium is the amount paid by the Buyer to the Auction House on the purchase of a lot, which is calculated on the Hammer Price as follows: a rate of 25% of the Hammer Price of the Lot up to and including $25,000; plus 20% on the part of the Hammer Price over $25,000, plus applicable Sales Tax.
