LITERATURE
Charles Pachter, interviewed by Heffel, May 2022

Please note: this work is unframed.

From the Tent is from Charles Pachter’s series of tent paintings, although here it is expressed in an unexpected, uniquely inverted point of view. The iconic formal elements of his style – solid colour blocking, geometric shapes and flattened compositions – pervade the canvas and recall his other tent paintings. This painting, however, depicts a distinct sense of perspective, looking from the interior of tent towards a verdant exterior. Pachter says that he could have named the piece Inside Out, as his inspiration was drawn “from a memory of observing the dappled light of a forest from inside an orange camping tent that I slept in during a canoe trip decades ago.” Pachter’s bold forms meet the delicacy of nature.
