PROVENANCE
Acquired in London, England by the present Private Collection, Dubai then Vancouver, circa 1970 - 1975

Peter Collingwood is considered to be the pre-eminent British artistic weaver of the post-war era. A master craftsman in the traditional method of textile weaving, he made forays into aesthetic innovation with his two- and three-dimensional hangings. Acquired in London in the early 1970s, M.90 No.2 is an example of his trademark work, the “macrogauze,” which are wall hangings with intricate patterns of crossed and twisted threads held together using thin metal rods.

Collingwood was an authority on sprang and card weaving, and the author of what remains the definitive reference source, The Techniques of Rug Weaving, published in 1968. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1974 for his contributions to Arts & Culture.
