LITERATURE
Jean Blodgett, Grasp Tight the Old Ways: Selections from the Klamer Family Collection of Inuit Art, 1983, catalogue no. 69, page 113

Jean Blodgett notes, “Two strange creatures float near a fairy-tale moon…by the time this work was done the south Baffin Inuit had been converted to Christianity or at least been well exposed to Western religious concepts.” Natsivaar’s angels and moon, their shapes and details influenced by Western sources, integrates seamlessly into Cape Dorset graphics, blending new ideas with traditional Inuit culture in a haunting Arctic image.

Natsivar passed away just two years after the inaugural Cape Dorset Print Collection, resulting in only two of her graphic works: Angels in the Moon and Mother and Son (1961).

Printmaker: Iyola Kingwatsiak (1933-2000)
