Sports journalist Howard Cosell had an audacious personality that complemented the fascinating character of Muhammad Ali both on and off the air. Cosell was not afraid to openly discuss racial or other controversial issues, and after Ali’s championship title was stripped due to his refusal to join the US military, Cosell continued to support the boxer. Their relationship can be traced to the early sixties when Cosell began to do commentary on his fights during live broadcasts, and he continued to do so after his almost four-year banishment from boxing. Internationally renowned sports photographer Neil Leifer took this photograph on the day of Ali’s fight versus Joe Bugner, from which Ali emerged victorious. The photograph displays the playful and charismatic sides of both personalities, captured through the lens of one of boxing’s greatest photographers and enthusiasts.

The sheet size of the photograph is 20 x 16 inches.
