PROVENANCE
A gift from the Artist to the Collection of Irving Layton and Anna Pottier, 1992
Collection of Anna Pottier, Utah
This lot consists of a portfolio of six unframed etchings plus the cover sheet, enclosed in a folio case. The portfolio was created specifically to honour the Canadian poet Irving Layton, and this particular edition was presented by Richard Gorman to Layton's wife Anna Pottier at the launch of the poet's book of love poems, Dance with Desire (Porcupine’s Quill, 1992), illustrated by Gorman. When Gorman met Pottier in person he exclaimed that she, and the Laytons’ passion as a couple, was just as he had imagined while creating the works.
This edition of artist’s proofs is separate from the regular edition of 100.
