Many of Kenojuak’s early prints are distinguished by their fluid forms and dynamic interaction with negative space. These early prints have intricate patterns that seamlessly connect multiple figures and shapes, creating a harmonious design. Complex of Birds features graceful silhouetted figures, primarily birds and humans, forming an intricate web against a blue-grey background. This treatment of both the figures and the spaces between them adds a distinctive complexity to the print, making Complex of Birds one of Kenojuak’s most enduring masterpieces.

Printmaker: Eegyvudluk Pootoogook (1931-1999)
