Jessie Oonark’s early experiences with sewing caribou skin clothing were foundational to her artistry. Sewing was a communal activity, and these skills and cultural insights seamlessly transitioned into her textile art, evident in her intricate and symbolic wall hangings.

In this captivating wall hanging, the ulu shape, a symbol of femininity and the role of woman in Inuit culture, emerges from the top and bottom of the central face, which smiles warmly at the viewer. Surrounding this figure, ten additional faces fan out in a circular arrangement, likely symbolizing a drum.
