Shuvinai Ashoona, born in 1961 in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, is a renowned Canadian Inuit artist celebrated for her distinctive, vibrant and imaginative drawings. Coming from a family of artists, including her grandmother Pitseolak Ashoona and her cousin Annie Pootoogook, Shuvinai's work is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Inuit art while also pushing its boundaries with her unique vision.
Ashoona's artwork often features a blend of fantastical and surreal elements with scenes from everyday life in the Arctic, capturing both the traditional and contemporary facets of Inuit culture.
