Acquired by a Private Collection, Ontario, early 1980s


The apricot silk ground with six finely brocaded dragon roundles, of 18th/19th century. The embroidered details from the late 19th century, featuring a gold-thread 'mandorla' in the center, accompanied by various Daoist motifs and stylized sun and moon on top, flanking a longevity motif ‘Shou’. Worked in red on the central pagoda with “wu fu shou wei xian,” among the five fortunes, longevity is valued the most. Framed by a silk threaded border with embroidered bats and stylized 'shou' characters. The image measures: 28 x 25 1/2 inches
