Jean Paul Lemieux was a painter of vast spaces who captured the Canadian winter like no one else. This untitled 1983 work scrapes away all extraneous elements to get down to the stark contrast of black and white. The extreme simplicity of the composition creates a feeling of intimacy, set off by the striking solitude of the figure in the foreground. We thank Patricia Aubé, curator and educator at the MACBSP, for contributing the original French essay.Consignor proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Musée d’art Contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul. The Buyer is hereby advised to read fully the Terms and Conditions of Business and Catalogue Terms, including the HO2 Sale Notice and Special Terms of Sale.
