This image is #17 from the Last Days series created in 1971. The artist's notes on this work are on a label on verso as follows: "One of the paintings in that Agnès Lefort Gallery show was of Poplar Spring. To make this text relevant to that locale I've made out that some refugees have been spared in the depression of land around that spring. They are now offering a Mass of Thanksgiving. I've stretched the form of it so that it might also be a Protestant Communion service. A false prophet approaches in the distance."
