Of compressed globuar body supported on a short, straight foot, rising to a flaring neck. Decorated in under glaze blue featuring scrolling floral and foliage encircled between lappet and ruyi-head bands. With six character Daoguang mark in blue to the base.

Of elegant form and proportions, the present zhadou pays homage to similar examples from the Qianlong reign (1736-1795). These types of vessels were used as containers for food and drink residue, and showcase the Qing Court’s (1644-1911) interest in archaism. The original shape of such vessels refers to Bronze Age zuns, while the design of blue and white lotus blooms harks back to Imperial wares from the 15th Century of the early Ming Dynasty.
