Major General Georges Vanier was a Canadian solider and diplomat, and served as the 19th Governor General of Canada. The Honourable Pauline Vanier was the first non-political woman to be appointed to the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. Georges and Pauline married in 1921, and together they held great political distinction. They created the Vanier Institute of the Family in 1965 and many schools, residences, scholarships, geographic locations and organizations are named after the Vanier family.
