LITERATURE
Charles Pachter, interviewed by Heffel, May 2022

Queen Elizabeth, often wryly referred to by Charles Pachter as the “Monarch of the North,” has been a recurring figure in his work since the mid-1970s. He described the inspiration for this illustration: “I was fascinated by Monarchy and loved watching the young, glamorous Queen Elizabeth doing her duty over the years.” Here, he commemorates the Queen’s elegance in a single gesture: her iconic royal wave. Pachter had the honour of meeting Her Majesty in person at the re-opening of Canada House in London in 2015.
