The inscription on verso of this painting is possiby to one of three daughters of Sir William Boog Leishman. Leishman was a noted Scottish pathologist and traveled to Canada to meet with Frederick Banting regarding his diabetes research. After receiving the Nobel Prize for developing insulin, Banting traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland, to give a lecture and may have met Leishman's family at that time. Both Banting and Leishman also shared a passion for painting landscapes.
