This bronze is ealistically rendered and depicts the historical Prince Shotoku (574-622) as an astute young priest, wearing a traditional joe while holding a book in his left hand. The base is impressed with the maker's mark.
Prince Shotoku lived during the Asuka period (538-710) and was believed to have been responsible for modernizing the Japanese government and promoting Buddhism within Japan.
