Robert Flack was an important member of the Toronto art community throughout the 1980’s into the 90’s. After graduating from York University in 1980 he began working at Art Metropole, and assisted on many General Idea related projects as a layout artist. He exhibited extensively in Canada at artist-run centres and public institutions, and was soon invited to exhibit internationally at such galleries as Das Institut Unzeit, West Berlin, Artist Space, Sydney, the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, Rutgers University Museum, New Jersey and W139, Amsterdam.
He was diagnosed with HIV in the early 1990’s and passed away in 1993. His work has since been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions at institutions including Kunsthalle Wien, Art Gallery of Ontario, Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art at the National Gallery of Canada, Witte de With, Amsterdam, and the Power Plant, Toronto among many others.
This work is from his final series, Love Mind from 1992, which can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada and the Ryerson Image Centre.
