LITERATURE
Charles Pachter, interviewed by Heffel, May 2022
Moose Lunar II is from Charles Pachter’s series of paintings of moose exploring dramatized landscapes: peering over cliffs, walking over tightropes and climbing mountains near the sea. In this painting, set between two cliffs and underneath a brilliant moon, the silhouette of the moose resides within a liminal space. Pachter shows his skill at simplification and the rendering of tone and form to create spatial abstraction and drama. Customary with his iconic Pop Art style, he juxtaposes vibrant orange and cool blue tones. Pachter’s crisp form and bold colours illuminate the moose as a majestic – and mysterious – symbol of Canadiana.
