Functioning as a koro censer and standing four-square, the enormous beast richly caparisoned and decorated in a millefleur ground with gilding throughout, its head with dripping tasselled jewelry, the harness with a scene of Chinese scholars in a bamboo grove on one side, the other with five rakans (Buddhist disciples) and their young attendants, the saddle with fierce monster masks and surmounted by a hexagonal removeable censer fitted with a silver cover containing pierced cloud openings. Base marked Kizan. The interior includes an unrelated blue and white Seto ware stem cup that can be used to hold incense.
