Elements of this 1930 painting by J.W. Beatty bear the hallmarks of a much earlier period of the artist’s work. During his travels in Europe from 1906 to 1909, he became influenced by the Barbizon School of France, which deeply affected his style and colour choices. This was especially evident in his works produced in Belgium circa 1908, to which our later work bears a similarity in the dark and earthy palette.
