This month, Heffel is pleased to offer a selection of exciting photographs. Considering art history as a whole, photography remains a very young medium, less than 200 years old. Nevertheless, it is one of the most common ways in which we look at and understand the world today, and it is central to our visual culture. The first Kodak camera made the medium accessible to a wider public in 1888, and subsequent innovations of the 20th and 21st Century made its dissemination even easier. Although it was first considered as merely a means of documenting reality, artists quickly saw the aesthetic possibilities offered by the medium, as is demonstrated by the works offered in this sale.
