Our consignment specialists closely follow the market and recommend estimates based on prices realized for comparable works at recent national and international public auctions, as well as additional considerations, such as condition, rarity, quality and provenance.

In order to protect the Consignor's interests, Heffel and the Consignor will together determine a Reserve, or minimum price, below which the item will not be sold.

Heffel’s team of specialists will recommend the most suitable auction for your artwork(s), based on both the upcoming sale calendar, as well as your timeline and goals. Heffel holds two live auctions each year in Toronto, as well as monthly online auctions. To view our upcoming auction calendar, please click here.

Our live auctions are divided into two sessions – Post-War & Contemporary Art and Canadian, Impressionist & Modern Art – and our online auctions are divided into multiple sessions, organized by genre, period, artist or subject.

Heffel is pleased to help you sell your artworks and our specialists are accepting consignments for the following specialty online auctions:

Dating back to 1978, Heffel has successfully brokered private sales of artworks. If this option best suits your needs, Heffel would be pleased to discuss and develop a tailored strategy.

The Consignor will receive a Consignment Receipt and Consignment Agreement which outline the terms and fees for our services, the agreed upon estimate and reserve for your review and approval. Heffel can assist with coordinating the shipment and delivery of your artwork to one of our locations.

Our specialists will professionally catalogue, research and photograph your artwork. If required, we will also make framing and conservation recommendations to present the artwork in the best possible state. Any associated costs will be presented to the Consignor for approval prior to the commencement of any work.

Your artwork will be featured as a Lot in the designated auction catalogue, and displayed at one or more of our national exhibition spaces. For Lots featured in our online auction, you can follow the action on our website throughout the sale, and for Lots included in the live auction, you can join us in the saleroom or tune in to the live stream.

After the auction closes, the consignor will receive an e-mail notifying them of the status of each offered Lot. Payment for sold Lots is issued by cheque or wire within 35 days of the close of the auction. We will issue the net proceeds (Hammer Price less the Seller’s Commission and any sale-related expenses).
